Students work through 15 North Pole consumer law and business ethics scenarios, deciding whether each situation is nice (lawful/ethical) or naughty (unethical/illegal). They must also determine which consumer protection law applies, strengthening their understanding through real-world examples.

To extend learning, students complete a webquest research activity to identify the actual U.S. government agency (FTC) responsible for protecting consumers. Internet access is required for this portion of the activity. Students investigate:

  • The agency’s official name,
  • Its purpose and responsibilities,
  • Its website and how consumers use it

 

This lesson is perfect for a 45-minute class period, including discussion, and works wonderfully for sub days or remote learning.
