What’s Included❓

✅ 9 Printable Student Activity Sheets
✅ Teacher’s Key
✅ Project Grading Rubric

Activity 1 – Entrepreneurship: The Agritourism Opportunity

Students begin by exploring how an established farm could expand into agritourism.

Students will:

✔️ Identify five possible revenue streams for the fall festival
✔️ Select three revenue streams the farm should prioritize
✔️ Explain why those opportunities could benefit the business
✔️ Consider how an entrepreneur can use existing resources to create new sources of income

This activity introduces students to recognizing business opportunities, entrepreneurship, diversification, and revenue generation.

Activity 2 – Product Development: Build Your Fall Festival

The Miller Family Farm has a $35,000 startup budget, and students must decide which attractions the festival should offer.

Students must:

✔️ Review the startup cost of each attraction
✔️ Select attractions without exceeding the budget
✔️ Calculate the total startup cost
✔️ Explain why their combination of attractions would appeal to customers

This activity incorporates budgeting, product development, customer needs, decision-making, and opportunity cost.

Activity 3 – Pricing: What’s the Price of Fall Fun?

Students develop a pricing strategy for their festival.

Students then create prices for:

  • Adult Admission
  • Child Admission
  • Family Packages
  • Group Rates

Students also calculate projected revenue under low, moderate, and high attendance scenarios.

This is a great opportunity for students to connect pricing decisions to revenue, customer value, and profitability.

Activity 4 – Marketing: Sell the Fall Experience

Students develop a marketing strategy for the festival by identifying several potential target markets.

Students determine what may appeal to each customer segment and how the business could attract them.

They also create:

✔️ A Festival Name
✔️ A Logo
✔️ A Tagline
✔️ A Social Media Promotional Post

This activity reinforces target markets, branding, promotion, customer needs, and social media marketing.

Activity 5 – Retailing: The Farm Market Challenge

Students operate the festival’s fictional farm market. They review wholesale costs for products.

Students choose a product mix, then calculate selling prices using a 100% markup.

Students must also explain their choices and consider which products are most likely to be popular and profitable.

This activity connects wholesale cost, markup, selling price, product selection, profitability, and retail decision-making.

Activity 6 – Human Resources: Help Wanted, Harvest Crew

Students determine the staffing needs required to operate the festival.

They consider employees needed for areas such as:

✔️ Ticket Sales
✔️ Attractions
✔️ Food Service
✔️ Parking
✔️ Farm Market

Students determine:

  • How many employees are needed
  • Employee responsibilities
  • Which areas will be most difficult to staff
  • How employee training and motivation can contribute to business success

This activity introduces practical human resources, staffing, employee responsibilities, training, and workforce planning concepts.

Activity 7 – Risk Management: When Fall Plans Fall Apart

Even great businesses encounter unexpected problems!

Students are presented with a realistic scenario in which heavy rain threatens the festival, outdoor attractions cannot operate, and customers are already on their way.

Students must develop a contingency plan addressing:

✔️ Which activities should be canceled or changed
✔️ Alternative activities for customers
✔️ Additional resources needed
✔️ Customer safety
✔️ How the business should communicate the changes

Students also write sample customer communications.

This activity develops risk management, contingency planning, problem-solving, safety, and crisis communication skills.

Activity 8 – Business Communication: The Unhappy Pumpkin Picker

Online reviews can affect a business quickly!

Students read realistic negative customer reviews and must:

✔️ Write a professional response
✔️ Acknowledge the customer’s concerns
✔️ Demonstrate empathy
✔️ Provide helpful information
✔️ Recommend a customer-service solution

This activity gives students practical experience with professional business communication, customer service, reputation management, and conflict resolution.

Activity 9 – Business Analysis: The Harvest Is In

The festival is over—and now students must determine whether it was successful.

Students analyze data including:

✔️ Attendance
✔️ Ticket Sales
✔️ Attraction Revenue
✔️ Food & Retail Revenue
✔️ Operating Expenses
✔️ Customer Satisfaction Ratings

Students then:

  1. Determine whether the festival was profitable
  2. Identify which areas generated the most and least revenue
  3. Use financial and customer data to support their conclusions
  4. Recommend three (3) improvements for next year

This final activity brings the entire project together through financial analysis, data interpretation, evaluation, and strategic decision-making.

🎯 Skills Students Practice

Students practice much more than simply recalling vocabulary. Throughout the project they must:

✔️ Make business decisions
✔️ Work within a budget
✔️ Calculate projected revenue
✔️ Calculate markup and selling prices
✔️ Interpret financial information
✔️ Analyze customer data
✔️ Identify target markets
✔️ Develop promotional strategies
✔️ Plan staffing
✔️ Solve operational problems
✔️ Develop contingency plans
✔️ Write professional customer communications
✔️ Justify recommendations with evidence
✔️ Use critical-thinking and problem-solving skills

The project intentionally connects entrepreneurship, marketing, retailing, human resources, business communication, pricing, financial analysis, and critical thinking so students see how different areas of a business work together.
