Description
My MAP YOUR TAXES – Tax Discovery activity for Personal Finance class is an awesome way to keep kids engaged while exploring various types of taxes (sales tax, income tax, real estate tax). Students will explore where the highest and lowest of each type of tax is on a USA map. I always welcome activities where students are prompted to use maps to explore their world while connecting it with valuable Personal Finance content. Also, a great opportunity for students to freshen up their geography skills.
This activity wasn’t only relevant, but an eye-opener for my future tax paying students. Therefore, a reflection is included as well as a teacher’s key.
Also includes a collaborative bulletin board for students to work together as a team and showcase what they learned. What an awesome way to display student artifacts and content learned! (USA Map not included).

Very engaging way to introduce my tax unit in Personal Finance. I used maps I got from Amazon and had students label as many states as they could. (Great US Geography lesson too!) They did the research and then transferred what they learned to our display in the hallway. Lots of student passing by are looking and making comments! Fun! This resource was well worth the money!

Great activity when talking about taxes. I used it for personal finance, but seems like it would also be good in a social studies class when talking about federal vs. state laws, etc. I love the bulletin board that is also an activity. I actually keep a large map on the wall so was able to just add these the day we did this. Much better to get them moving and engaged as opposed to me just listing all the types of taxes and giving a couple of examples of states that are high. Neat resource, good value for what you get.
